Fortunately , it’s my blog . I grew up with an Underwood manual typewriter . If I only still had that typewriter I could hook it up to any USB-capable computer . USBTypewriter.com provides design documents , assembly instructions , kits to do it yourself , and you can ship them your typewriter and they’ll install the mod for you . • A free version of the pdist command for MATLAB

    Updated: 2010-06-26 10:07:42
MATLAB contains a function called pdist that calculates the ‘Pairwise distance between pairs of objects’. Typical usage is X=rand(10,2); dists=pdist(X,'euclidean'); It’s a nice function but the problem with it is that it is part of the Statistics Toolbox and that costs extra. I was recently approached by a user who needed access to the pdist function [...]

You play a game of Tic Tac Toe with a friend . The game ends in a draw . You pull out a piece of paper or napkin that you drew in advance that shows exactly what the ending board would look like . How did you know Did you control their mind and force them to make the moves you wanted them to This great trick is attributed to the late Martin Gardner . It is a great one for kids to learn because it will teach them some things about logical thinking . Some time later I followed this up with another blog post and a Wolfram Demonstration. Well, over at Stack Overflow, some people have been rendering this [...]
